The Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (urogynecology) division specializes in the evaluation and treatment of conditions that affect the female pelvic organs and the muscles and connective tissue that support these organs. This specialty focuses on surgical and non-surgical treatment of non-cancerous gynecologic problems. Our urogynecology team is dedicated to improving the quality of life for women who suffer from a wide variety of health problems such as urinary incontinence, urinary voiding dysfunction, bladder pain, anal incontinence, bowel dysfunction, pelvic organ prolapse, sexual dysfunction, pelvic pain and pelvic floor disorders. A variety of surgical and non-surgical therapies to cure or relieve symptoms of prolapse, urinary or fecal incontinence and other pelvic floor problems are available depending on the severity of the condition and the patient's general health. Non-surgical options include medications, pelvic exercises, behavioral and/ or dietary modifications and use of vaginal devices (pessaries). Biofeedback and electric stimulation are two newer types of treatments that may be recommended. One of our urogynecologists also may recommend a safe and effective surgical procedure for treating incontinence and prolapse.
